Swimming

swimmingSwimming is a very enjoyable and competitive sport, however the strokes and movements in the pool are very repetitive, which can have a toll on your joints and muscles.

Injuries usually result from poor technique, fatigue, overuse of muscles, not warming up/cooling down properly.  Previous injuries/traumas also affect speed and distance which in turn can affect your ability for good stroke technique.

What do you feel?

During Swimming, usually function begins to deteriorate in the form of weakness, fatigue, awkwardness of motion. Other symptoms like pain, swelling, pins and needles, numbness, pinching may present when the body struggles to perform efficiently. The most common sites for pain are in the shoulder, back and neck as well as knee, hips and arms. If symptoms are not treatment, injuries such as rotator cuff strains, shoulder impingement or instability.

What to do?

The practitioners at Future Proof Care have helped many swimmers by restoring the body’s natural mechanics and releasing the tension in surrounding structures, mobility and proper function can be improved and regained.

If your body is not performing how you would like, it is worth having a consult with us to establish the cause. If your pain is beyond the scope of Chiropractic or Osteopathy, you will be referred and advised accordingly for the appropriate therapy and/or investigations.

If the pain is within our scope, we can work with you to help restore your body to its natural mechanics and relieve the tightness enabling the body to self-heal and regulate; as well as discuss the best way to prevent re-occurrence.
