triathlonTriathlons are very testing on your body and due to the three disciplines involved, swimming, running and cycling, triathletes are vulnerable to a full spectrum of sports injuries. Injuries usually occur due to overuse or overtraining causing fatigue, improper technique, and repetitive stress on the mechanics of the body muscles, joints, tendons and surrounding tissues. Other causes of injuries can be poorly fitted equipment, traumas/accidents or poor warm up/cool down technique.

What do you feel?

Usually function begins to deteriorate in the form of weakness, fatigue, awkwardness of motion before other symptoms like pain, swelling, pins and needles, numbness present when the body struggles to perform efficiently. The most common sights for pain are in the back, neck, hips, arms, and knees and various muscles throughout the body. Ignoring the loss of function, pain and inflammation and continuing to train will lead to tissue damage and disruption of the tendon, muscle or bone. It is better to get an injury seen to before it result in weeks or months away from your triathlon training and competition.
